My first Delivery Experience

It started from 6:30-7 in the evening on 15th July. I experienced typical pain for every minute in an interval of hour. I thought it might be some other pain as my EDD was on 22nd. The pain grew n I had to call hubby home but he came on his regular time. I requested him to stay beside me so that I feel secure, which he did. I tried sleeping but then started to get cramps in my lower body. I also did vomiting n went to washroom for more than 8 times. That day was chaturdashi so I ate before sunset. I had taken Anemia of caster oil in the morning under the guidance of an Ayurvedic Doc which made the labour active. I got admitted by 2:15. Till morning the doctor kept inspecting and gave me pain injections because he felt the pain was less. My MIL slept in the same room and made me more uncomfortable with her regular remarks that still I am not having that kind of pain that can deliver a baby. I was hoping to pass the night as soon as possible so that my hubby could come back and I have ...

Bhartiya sanskruti (Indian culture) a blessing : Dressing

Dhoti & Khes was worn by men since ages, Women wore Sarees. Why??? Here are the benefits: One size fits all, even if you loose or gain weight. Our ancestors taught us to have a saving habit rather than consuming habits of westerners.  Very efficient upcycle material. Comfortable during internal waste discharge.  Not only is the dhoti comfortable to wear but also to carry. It is made of unstitch cloth hence economical and light weight. There is a psychological backing to wearing “akhand” or whole garment. It gives a feeling of completion. I was asked to wear a single woven sari during my marriage when I wanted to wear a designer sari so badly. My mom said designer saris are made by stitching multiple patches of clothes, do u want your married life to be patchy? I know, it would sound superstitious but I did it just to be sure.  It is made of cotton or silk. Cotton is the best material for climatic conditions in India. Even today doctors advice to dress inf...

I Salute The Mother In You

I have been traveling through BEST bus since a month now. Observing passengers especially ladies. I prefer the reserved seat for ladies. I usually get to sit immediately there.  A lady in burkha sat beside me with her 7months boy. I started. Me: "Does he have teeth yet?" She was very welcoming and showed me his tiny milky teeth. He was cute, enjoying that he was travelling. Me: "Is he your first child?" She said, “No its my third, I have other two girls. I just dropped them to school and am returning from there.” It is a personal opinion on how many kids a couple wants to have but what amazes me is how a mother takes care of as many kids she has with all the love and attention. Today while at the bus stop for boarding my ride i meet a lady. She lost her husband at much early age and had two kids to take care. she started her career at 30 and didn’t look back. Its cool how she manages her home and work together with kids. No personal life! I salute th...

My experience with Mumbai Train

Strangely, the western railway of Mumbai city trains have only one ladies first class compartment which is at one end of the train. Where as the central railway has 3, each situated at the start, end and one in center. although the gents first class compartment situation is same on both the lines. There is one more Harbour line network that i have never commuted. First class monthly pass is more than 3 times the cost of second class... Still very cheap! Although they are more crowded due to the narrow compartments. "The quality of sweat differs", is what people joke around. The first class lady commuters talk in English and show respect and attitude to fellow commuters (exceptions are always there!). Both the class have regular travelers forming groups They keep talking during the mundane travel time. They reserve seats for their group members. Some even try to regulate others by maintaining a queue to enter the compartment. There is no such rule to enter in queue but la...

A designer, drifting in the crowd

Its been more than 3 months, I am back to corporate culture. For long time, I had been working on freelance and was habituated with self driven work environment. Hence joining a corporate was intriguing. Its not that this was my first time but it was surely exciting. I read blogs and articles and books tremendously and made myself ready to provide the best of me as a User Interface Designer. The product company i work with has a huge team of developers and a small team of idea guys like the Business Analysts(BAs). To my surprise, the devs were demotivated and the BAs were less motivated. I thought perhaps this is the same everywhere in India and I should concentrate on what i can do best. I gave them the sleek, user-friendly, clean and crisp look to their existing design. When I would request a BA to brief about a module he would tell me, you need not know that. I don't blame him. but designers in India are looked upon in the same way. Mostly peers look at me like a 'photo...

Yes, I'm an introvert. No, I'm not shy.

What do women talk with their girl gang? I always wondered. The new office I work in has fewer girls and my only rescuer to loneliness is the HR who is sweet and talkative. Initially we talked about food. This being the best conversation starters with everyone. She being a hard core non-vegetarian and I being a pure Jain, the discussions didn't long last. At times, ended me upset. I was really hoping for a friend who would not judge me on my eating preference. But since we both didn't have much of a comfort companion to be with, we tried to adjust with each other and get along. Talks about fashion, travel, lifestyle, skin care, hair care and lot more... We even discussed about petty personal things. I believe we are at much comfort zone now. Not even three months and we are happy spending the lunch hour together. The key to this was, give space to opinions and avoid being judgmental. I have mostly been a loner whole my life. So it petrifies me to be in a group or init...

Role of a UI Designer

When people ask me what do I do? I try to explain them in all sorts of manner to impress and be proud of something great I do. And they accept me as a photoshop designer... phew!! It is so difficult to make them understand the myriad capacity of a Designer. The Design process is crucial to be followed as each step adds quality to the final output. Mainly the Product Development Life cycle has 4 phases: Discover, Design, Develop and Deliver. Although as the name suggests, the involvement of a UI designer is not only in the Design Stage but also expected in the Discovery Stage. Lets take a brief understanding. Step1: Understanding UI Designer needs to work closely with a cross-functional team that includes product development, business analysis, quality assurance and marketing teams to provide his experience in creating elegant UI. Customer Touch Point Analysis A Graphic Designer, is not expected to have in-depth knowledge of Usability, hence he is not i...
