A Quick getaway, Dahanu

My husband was exhausted mentally and physically, which is why he badly needed a break from the chaotic work life. We sat down one night at the movie theatre waiting for the show to start. The movie was about to exit the theaters and we didn't want to miss this one. It was a sudden plan and that night was full of surprising decisions.

We surfed the travel apps and in just 10 minutes booked our weekend getaway to Dahanu, a small village near the sea shores of Maharashtra. A 3hr drive from Mumbai, smooth roads, few tolls and lovely scenes to relax your mind.

Morning started with a visit to Kaman tirth on the way and we had our breakfast there.
It took us a hour and a half to reach our hotel which was just opposite the beach. We relaxed and ate lunch, binge watch Netflix in the room. My son was so happy to play in the balcony that he almost skipped his nap.

We went to the beach in the evening and had a gala time playing in the sand, horse cart riding, sipping gola and eating hot bhajiyas with tea. This tea stall was such a lucky find. We had mirchi bhajji and since we preffered jain food, we asked him to make us cabbage bhajji, which he made with whole heart.

After seeing the sunset we ate at the Laxmi Vilas Hotel that served us jain food. With Tawa Pulao and Dosa we ended our day.

Next morning early before the sun rise we reached the beach. It was foggy all around. Hem spotted a dead snake, climbed a fallen tree, collected sea shells and roamed around the pine trees that curtained the beach view. He was quite hungry by that time and so were we. We found hotel Chandrika that served authentic south indian breakfast with the typical maharashtrian ones. We ate till our content. Enjoyed the coffee and idli wada sambhar.

We visited two jain temples in the noon. One was 10 mins from our hotel. There was a 150yr completion celebration happening. The derasar was so amazingly calming, it made me want to
stay there for ever. Old architecture and narrow lanes, huge houses and warm people, it was all calling me. The other one was in the center of dahanu. This one has a place to stay (dharamshala) and also upashray.

We returned and napped and hoped that we could some day call this place our second home. For dinner we found a hidden gem for fastfood lovers. It was called 91 degrees. This place is so much like the high-profile cafes in mumbai. They have some really interesting fusion menu with eye catching presentation. The staff seemed knowledgeable, courteous.

This was the most abrupt trip we ever took and it turned out so good. Next day we returned back relaxed and full of memories to cherish, inside jokes to mock, plans for future and stronger family bonds.

Notes on getting Strong Mental Health

How to be Mentally Strong?  Ami Morin is a therapist and has written the bestseller "13 Things Mentally Strong People Don't Do". I haven't read the book but I have heard her tedx talk. Here is the guidance by Amy Morin and my notes on them.  Believe in yourself We usually have certain beliefs about ourselves that are developed during our childhood. Like I am lazy to finish any task, I am an angry person, I am only good to people for certain amount of time etc. These are the statements usually by my key person, my guardian or my mom. I do feel offended when she says so but I accept it like a blind faith. If I try to say good things about myself and prove with incidences I can regain faith in my efforts, in myself. That will make me HAPPY. Daily Gratification is a good habit I will cultivate. It will surely make me feel special and thankful for what i have. Achieving my goals will elevate my faith in myself. Don't Compare yourself We find ourse...

I Salute The Mother In You

I have been traveling through BEST bus since a month now. Observing passengers especially ladies. I prefer the reserved seat for ladies. I usually get to sit immediately there.  A lady in burkha sat beside me with her 7months boy. I started. Me: "Does he have teeth yet?" She was very welcoming and showed me his tiny milky teeth. He was cute, enjoying that he was travelling. Me: "Is he your first child?" She said, “No its my third, I have other two girls. I just dropped them to school and am returning from there.” It is a personal opinion on how many kids a couple wants to have but what amazes me is how a mother takes care of as many kids she has with all the love and attention. Today while at the bus stop for boarding my ride i meet a lady. She lost her husband at much early age and had two kids to take care. she started her career at 30 and didn’t look back. Its cool how she manages her home and work together with kids. No personal life! I salute th...

Female Infanticides In India

It was an usual morning for a farmer in south India. While he was on his way towards his farm some villagers had gathered near a corner. "There is a child buried in here", said one of them. They dug the ground to find, one day old baby girl struggling for life and breath. He soon took the child to the hospital and informed Mrs. Sandhya. Sandhyaji has been taking care of Arti Childrens' home. She is a well educated wise angel for these abandoned babies. In her opinion the villagers don't understand the importance of a girl child. Ever since the ultrasonography technology has been introduced it has emerged as a murderer for the female child. In 2007, a village in Andrapradesh protested for a cruel act the clinics had performed.
